Moorlands holiday let is situated in the heart of the Mendip Hills, one of only 46 designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in all of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This is one of England’s most special places – the limestone Mendip Hills with the lakes of the Chew Valley is a stunning landscape of steep slopes and undulating plateau punctuated by spectacular gorges and rocky outcrops. On the hilltops there are hundreds of ancient monuments, whilst on steeper slopes flower rich grasslands and wooded combes offer varied habitats for a wide variety of wildlife.
From circular walks to long-distance recreational trails, there’s over 440km of Public Rights of Way in the Mendip Hills AONB for you to explore!

Wells Cathedral
The first Gothic Cathedral to be built in England, Wells Cathedral is famed for its unique architecture. From its iconic West Front, featuring 300 medieval carvings, to the ingenious fourteenth century Scissor Arches, the Cathedral never fails to inspire.
Open from 7am - 6pm daily a visit to the Cathedral and the beautiful city of Wells is a must for all visitors.
It is located just 8 miles from Moorlands, which is a 20 minute drive or, for our more active visitors a 45 minute cycle.

Glastonbury Abbey & Tor
This iconic and evocative landmark offers magnificent views of the Somerset Levels, Dorset, Wiltshire and Wales.
Glastonbury Tor is known as being one of the most spiritual sites in the country. Its pagan beliefs are still very much celebrated. It’s a beautiful place to walk, unwind and relax.
Whilst in Glastonbury, make sure you visit the historic Abbey. It is steeped in history dating back to circa 7th Century and is a must see.
Shepton Mallet Lido
Shepton Mallet Outdoor Pool, tucked just 4 miles from Moorlands in Shepton Mallet, is a fantastic place to take the kids for an outdoor swim during the summer months, with a toddler pool, a wonderful series of fountains and water jets to play in, plus a children's play area on the grass.
This ecofriendly pool dates back to the 1950s, but was extensively refurbished in 2006, and is warmed using recycled heat from the Brother's Cider factory next door.
There is a main 25m pool and a childrens pool making this ideal for a family visit.
There are male, female, and disabled changing facilities with lockers, an undercover balcony area with seating, and a shop selling swim stock and snacks, drinks, and ice creams.
There are lovely grassy and decking areas with picnic benches too, making this a great location to relax and enjoy the sunshine with the family.
Wookey Hole
In the heart of Somerset lies Wookey Hole, a magical place of caves, legends, and adventure for the young and young at heart.
When you visit Wookey Hole, you’ll enjoy an experience millions of years in the making. There is plenty to do inside and out, from vintage penny arcades to museums, adventure golf, and soft play zones, to name but a few of the attractions. Not forgetting the breathtakingly beautiful caves, for which Wookey Hole is renowned.
UNESCO City of Bath
Just 13 miles (30 minute drive) from Moorlands, guests will find the world UNESCO city of Bath.
Whether it is a day of shopping, sight seeing, exploring or going to the theatre, Bath has it all to offer.
A wonderful day out that truly meets the needs and interests of all of our visitors.

Midsomer Quilting
Nestled in Chilcompton itself, and just a short 10 minute walk from Moorlands, you will find 'The UK's favourite quilting shop' (as voted by British Patchwork and Quilting Magazine).
Step inside the shop to look through the thousands of fabrics available to buy or, better still, arrange a workshop with the team for you to take part in as part of your stay.
Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust
'Take a trip back in time on the Mendip main line' with this super day out for all the family (including our four legged friends).
A visit to the Somerset & Dorset Railway is a delightful way to step back in time and enjoy railway travel from days gone by. Popular with visitors of all ages, there is nostalgia for some, pure excitement for the youngsters and a fun time for all.
The venue has been lovingly restored by local volunteers and provides visitors with a real sense of what the railway was like in years gone by.
The Newt
The Newt in Somerset is a working country estate with acres of farmland, woodland, orchards and gardens. The gardens are open daily for visitors to explore and enjoy our restaurants, farm shops, Cyder Cellar and The Story of Gardening experience.
Explore picturesque gardens and ancient woodland, discover the art of cyder making and enjoy the finest fare plucked from the soil beneath your feet.
Puxton Park

Vobster Quay
Scuba Diving, Open Water Swimming and stand-up paddleboarding centre
Set in a beautiful and picturesque area of the Mendips and just a short minute drive from Moorlands, Vobster is the ideal location for watersports enthusiasts and a real favourite with guests of all ages.
